It's been a bit too quiet around here!
« on: December 16, 2020, 12:10:52 AM »

I have been lazy, I'll admit it.  I am not spending enough time cutting and I do it seems it doesn't move very fast.  Anyway, I have been working on these for a while doing a little work and walking away for a couple days.  Finally finished them today and thought I would post.  The Horse Canyons and the Stinking Water were self collected and the others from various rough and slabs I have.  The cab labeled plume although I have collected similar material it was out of a bunch of slabs I got a while back so won't guess it's locale.

Great rough and top-shelf framing of the features in the cabs. Well worth the extra time.

You say you've been lazy - but I only have ONE done anytime recently. I'll post it here just 'cuz you've shamed me into showing I do cut something now and then. :-)

Wonderful cabs. Great use of the edge on that stinking water.  🌟

Love the Opal where is it from?  I see the name was ring Opal so assume it is headed to the jewelry bench?

Beautiful cabs, Steve!

Thanks, I saw the tube and it sort of made the decision for me, strong feature like that and the design sort of makes itself I think.

That opal is from a field called Piping Lane in the Coober Pedy area. From a parcel we bought about three years ago.

Turned out to be verticals, but it's nice transparent crystal. Not water-clear but you can read the newspaper through it.

Thanks.

Your Stinking Water has changed my opinion of that material. Never did like the overall look of slabs, but now I'll have to look at it in a different way. That tightly framed pattern with the natural edge is great.

Does anyone know if you can cut Laguna agate like that super thin and not lose the color or does it star to become semi-transparent?  I'm talking about 1mm thick or about 0.04 inches.  I'm considering using it for an intarsia piece but I would need it very thin

These are really nice, I really like the plume one.  Never worked that material before.  Are the colors really as intense as it shows in the photo?

It is true to color in natural light.  Obviously indoor lighting would change it but I photograph with Daylight bulbs.  I can understand your question though since some plumes I see on Ebay make me want to vomit.  They oversaturate the colors and then the agate turns blue and I would find them laughable if they weren't using the pic to try and sell something.  I will post some pics of some colorful plumes tomorrow as I am pulling some new cuts out of the tide bath bucket.  I will post 2 pics one of a slab and a close up to show nice colorful plumes from a closed ranch in Texas.

Between the colorful plumes and the live edge on the top that is one great (!!!) slab.
