UK Saw and Cab machione advice
« on: April 28, 2015, 01:07:16 AM »

Hi Folks
I need some advice about lapidary saws and Cabbing machines. Very little is available in the U.K
I am an amateur lapidary enthusiast considering starting my own business, cutting, grinding, cabbing and polishing agate to produce cabochons for making jewellery and some large polished slices and 'stand-up' specimens for display. The biggest specimens would be about 6" / 15cm though most are 3" / 7.5cm.
I am considering the following:

SAWS Barranca Diamond BD-10 Trim Saw 1425
Covington 10” Trim Saw 1590
Lortone TS-10C Trim Saw 799
Lortone LS12C Slab Saw 1550

CABBING MACHINES
Barranca Diamond GP8 Diamond Wheel Super Cab Maker 2670
Barranca Diamond GP6 Diamond Wheel Cab Maker 2335
Covington 8” Cab King 2399
Diamond Pacific Genie 6” 2125
Lortone Complete 8” Arbour Package 1495
Lortone Complete 6” Arbour Package 1135

Obviously I am hoping to get good value for money and spend as little as possible but want the right tools for doing a good job for a long time. I would appreciate your advice as to whether this would be the right selection of equipment for what I want to do and any ideas about accessories that would be useful.
I would also appreciate it if you could recommend coolant that is available in the U.K, as it would clearly be prohibitively expensive to import from the US. My agates are pale, so it is vital that any fluid used would not stain the stones.
I would be grateful if you could let me know the cheapest suppliers and likely shipping costs to the U.K. and import tax.
Than you in anticipation of your support.
All the best,
Ben Church
