Hells Canyon pet wood?
« on: June 05, 2021, 04:26:11 PM »

Going through an unsorted slab collection I purchased, and came upon 4 nice slabs showing great herring bone patterns, and some opalization.  Wondering if this might be Hells Canyon petrified wood?  I have a few smaller pieces in my collection and they look a bit different.  I went onto Instagram and saw several photos resembling this material under the hashtag #hellscayonpertifiedwood, but I trust this forum a bit more than the "open seas" of social media posts.

I attached a photo of each slab I am questioning.  First two photos the slabs are abut 4" per side, the last two are larger at about 7 inches per side.  Interested in your thoughts.

Hells Canyon wood usually has the telltale pocket rot, if your slab has pocket rot in certain sections then it very well could be, in your photo I only saw one small section that could possibly be pocket rot.
