This list can be added to as time goes on and is in no way complete.
Here is a list of wire suppliers for those interested.

This one is wholesale only, but I'm sure there are folks here who have them:

Salvage copper wire at the recycle place or electrical shop. You have to be really careful when you strip the insulation so you do not damage the wire.

Also, you can buy copper wire at Home Depot from the spool.  Only bad thing is you have to unwind all the wire and coil it after you strip it, but it is cheap and you get different gauge wires.  I have an old post from a wire list I was on that has it all broken down into which size THHN has which gauge wires.  PM me if you want a copy.

I've bought from them several times before and been happy with their prices and product.

Sherman,

Their prices for precious metal sterling and 14kt gold fill are considerably higher than Rio Grande.  Can't comment on the other metals as we don't use anything else for our jewelry.  We typically order 25-50 ozt of wire at a time and at current spot, that is about 22 per ozt.  With 22 ga square sterling, you get 25.3 ft per ozt.  Rio price wit 1 ozt is 27.14 and their price is 40.80 for the same amount.

I'm at the 25% off on everything there. I primarily purchase brass and copper in 20-22 gauge. I'll certainly look at Rio Grande.
Thanks.

Being in Florida, I found that http://www.fdjtool.com/ is a great business, plus where I'm at its practically one day shipping. They've been real quick with contacting by phone and fixing orders when they run out of certain types of metal, even thrown in a free polishing cloth at one point.

Not to mention, there's always been a few pieces of hard candy.. thats a win-win.

As for copper, I've hunted down the dying trade of alternator/generator businesses, and hawked out a deal on their sitting spools of bare motor-winding wire. It's usually easy to find 20g-30g by the 1000's of feet, all on a spool or box. I think the lowest I got a spool for was 20$, and usually the spool lasts a few years.

I'd like a copy!

Are you talking the thin wire? Or the super THICK wire on spools?
