Title: Holly blue cab
Post by: cobbledstones on November 29, 2015, 08:34:59 PM
holly blue agate with golden moss strands. I found this rough at an estate sale almost two years ago and have been hesitant to cut. I cut it parallel to the layers to get the 'eye'. was fun.

That is sure unusual. I can understand hesitating. I think I need to find some and cut it also , good idea and nice stone.

Beautiful cab.  Holly Blue is a favorite of mine.  I have some rough here, but it's one of those materials I tend to hoard instead of cut!   :glasses9:

I have a couple more chunks from this find lithic. I can send one your way if you like.  They were in the bottom of a bucket of rough I bought (about 2lbs of holly blue total in that bucket).  Was shocked to find them when I got home.  My best rough finds have not been in the wild, but in local sales like this.  Makes me want to cut the best rock I have immediately when I stumble on things like this rock.

I love the subtle blue in this material.  Great work on such an elegant stone.   :icon_sunny:

I have a bunch of it thanks but I also tend to hoard it. I cut for a jeweler who would buy a dump truck of holly and dump it for me to sort. Two lavender stones , each about 20x30 mm , paid for the truck load when he sold them to Chinese dealers. They lookes exactly like the best purple jadeite. A wonderful and varied stone. I'm going to start looking.

For a bit years ago a lot of holly was around. Lots of clean pieces in the 3 to 4 pound range. Many went to Germany to be carved.
