i have it worked to 1200 now, i had to keep going back & forth with diamond bits to nova points to fix rough spots, but i think i finally have it good enough (im picky) to finish in 1200, go to 4000 next time i have a chance to work it.
I wish i didnt have to remove the top layer off the top of the stone near the narrow area, but the fire as too narrow on a wide surface, so i dug down a couple layers to get a complete layer across the top nodule.

This is going to hang from the thin darker area, I think somehow naturally but i may have to create a loop.
Im not drilling a hole, i already made a huge one lol!

I like it Phish, primal stuff! Love the portal... :headbang:
Good lookin' kids too.
I just ordered some of those diamond burrs you posted, I have yet to find ones I cannot destroy promptly upon arrival...
Of course I always buy the cheap ones....

Got quite a stack of layers there. Its so hard to choose the right one.
Single layers are good for practice, but don't get too worked up on them.
The ones that made you envious last weekend, where likely mostly ring-stones.
Pendant sizes or even larger are a very different matter, single layers rarely happen.

they were ring and or pendant stones for settings.
Some of mine are also, but theirs were all priced above $1000

This stone has a lot of color layers.  It also gets scary to start going down looking for more.  You can always finish and wear this with pride (the way it is now), and maybe revisit it sometime in the future.  I haven't cut a lot of these, but like all solid agates I use tin oxide on felt to polish. Make sure the felt is wet, (for cooling) and make sure to move around alot and not let the heat build up.

Pretty cool! I'll have to get my hands on of some ithis and try it. So it's in layers and you take your best guess as when its at its best?
