That is some gorgeous stuff, James!  Is it jasper, opal, or ???

Not sure. I thought it was like an obsidian but someone else said it was a porcelain jasper. The only porcelain jasper I have seen in Nevada though has been much further North.

I would love to find more of this regardless.  I looked all through the rock pile looking for more but did not have any luck.  And it is not near any mountains where I can try to follow the source up. Most of the stone in the area is various colored chalcedonies and andesites. And I found some nice jasper in the closest mountain, but nothing else like this.
