July workings
« on: July 25, 2015, 10:08:04 PM »

Been an off month or so but finally got the itch back full force this week and have been cutting a wide array of materials.

You are having fun playing with a variety of rough.    What's it like cutting pinolite?

It was so incredibly soft..I ground it down with my super worn out 80grit and when right to the 220 grit with no scratch problems. It has a couple of small voids around the pyrite inclusions that I don't care for also. But it took a decent polish quite easily and was nice to cut something so soft after the hard botswana agate pieces.

Will have to try to get me some Pinolite next month. I'm told they use it for road-fill back home. :) :) :)

Nice variety. The Carnelian is a great color.

Could the second one be a Queensland Agate? Reminds me a bit of those... .

Yes it is a piece of Queensland agate from Terry Maple. I bought quite a bit from him with the idea that at some point I will make graduated agate pendants from Queensland and Botswana agate which both can have wonderful pastel tones.

Heres a freshly polished batch of new pieces I sure have been really enjoying a very wide array of materials and hardnesses this past week or so. Definitely got my inspiration back with a vengence after a small lull. Happy cutting folks!! :-)
