Should I cut it????
« on: April 17, 2017, 10:05:03 PM »

I have had this 31 pound Coprolite for about 5 years. I have gone back and forth on whether to cut it or keep it as is. It is almost a full round Dino Doo and I love the idea of not messing with the integrity of its natural state, but on the other hand, I would love to see what is in it and maybe get some really cool cabs out of it. Totally undecided! What do you guys think???

Google photos of coprolite and see if you like the probable results better than the whole.

Another option....  Polish one of the faces. This can make an awesome display and still show the whole piece.

I'm with Mirkaba!  At least see what's in it.  If it's really, really, cool, you can give me a slab!   :toothy12:

I like sawing to make a base on whatever orientation makes for a nice "stand-up" specimen.

I agree with cutting one flat spot to see what is inside.  If not so good inside you just create a flat spot for it to sit on and if a wow inside - keep slabbing...

Okay, I am going to cut it! I use to have a 75 pound end piece off a 6ft long Coprolite that came out of a canyon somewhere in Utah. I picked it up at the Q. The couple spend two years trying to figure out how they were gonna get it out of the canyon. They ended up using a crane from what they said. It was a gorgeous chunk with the face polished. My husband sold it some time back to someone in our club I think. But my memory you know......

Anyway, decision made.....I will post pics as soon as it is cut.  :hello2
