Million Dollar Hill Sagenite
« on: August 17, 2017, 04:57:53 AM »

I haven't been able to turn up any info on this material,  it is an amazing blue/black and white.  I'll post pics once I take them, but is anyone familiar with the material or where the location is?

I've hounded it and cut it but the name I know for it is Saddle Ridge sagenite.  I have some I'm in the process of making doublets from right now.  The one shown here I made several years ago by backing it with a mirror to get light through the dense needle arrangement.  Some is fine when cabbed by regular methods but a lot of it doesn't show well without some method of highlighting the fascinating inclusions.

Correction: my memory's failing.  I think the name is Saddle Rim Sagenite, not Saddle Ridge.

wow! both are exceptional.  using a mirror was a smart move.  would not have thought of that.

Yes, Saddle Rim. Sometimes gets called "Deer Hair" too. Love the cabs.
