sillimanite cab
« on: January 09, 2015, 08:25:27 AM »

This is a cab; about 65mm x 18mm x 6mm, I made in the new year from one of my sillimanite rocks I found last fall. The material is hard; about 7mohs, easy to polish; this is at 3000 on the resin pads, tough, and comes in a variety of colours I haven't found yet but this rock had a blend of some of them.

rock it came from; it has a couple of healed fractures in it and weighed in around 5kgs. whole

A beauty. Really like the shape. I have been doing some odd shapes lately too just to be different.

thanks Ernie and Jim, I've been expirimenting with some different shapes that might suit the material more after I did a couple of standard cabs that just didn't seem to look right.
