Couple of freeform cabs from this morning :-)

First cab was from a piece of pyrite that was oxidized boy what a black gnarly mess that created as you can see for a metal i was pretty surprised it was so soft and easy to grind and form i left the natural pocket in it cause #1 i wanted to keep as much of the original material and keep it as large as possible #2 i think it added to its over all look and shows what once was dark and kinda ugly is now revealed in this golden shiny piece.

And second was a piece of dino bone i bought for 2bucks at a rockshow i hosted last weekend it gave off a fairly good organic smell kinda like coral but not as strong. It was an extremely thin slab(slabbett??) so i worked it with diligent hands slowly and carefully..after getting into sanding i was running into scratches that just wouldnt go away so i hooked up my expando belt setup and worked my way thru some belts upto 600grit worn belt then back over to my nova 600 and onto 1200 and finally 3000polish..im really happy with the results on my first dino bone piece :-)

The doni bone has nice color, I think that was a good score.  I was delighted to see how easily my wheels buffed metal, makes buffing out scratches on bezel settings a lot easier.  Lol

The pyrite is an exceptionally cool find, I like that a lot.

The pyrite is gorgeous!

Interestingly, it's not actually a metal. It's a mineral consisting of a metal (iron) and a non-metal (sulfer). The crystal it forms has about the same hardness as chalcedony (6.5-7).

That being said... it sure as heck looks like a metal!
