Went on a group outing with the rock club to a large lake high in the mountains near here; 2 hours drive, to look at some "marble" that we had been told about. I may have to revaluate my earlier posting of limestone or this may be misnamed. Either way, it was a good day for rockhounding with showers around all day but we never got wet and great views of a huge, little used lake; it feeds the famous Adams River salmon run. Access is on a forest service road through the cedar, spruce, fir, and birch forest.
The lake from the beach where the mountain sheds the marble blocks; yes those big black ones are too. There is a dike that runs right through the mountain here about 1km. wide all the way across the lake and continues up the mountain on the other side.
