Girly day out
« on: August 15, 2015, 09:20:01 AM »

Off we went high in the mountains to collect jade. We survived getting run into the ditch on a narrow steep mountain road by a dump truck speeding  down on a very curvy blind corner of the road. A few pictures now including Helene with her first jades and packlitic who carried all my jade out and found plenty of her own. More later.

I think Emma found the biggest piece of Jade going, that is much to big to haul out!   :toothy12: :toothy10:
Looks like fun had by all.
Helene you will have to cut some of that Jade and make some pretty pieces, maybe incorporate some of it into your pottery like you did the agate slices.   :headbang:

A banana slug!  Now I know what those nasty things were that we kept finding on our kitchen floor at night at the first floor apartment in Bellevue WA!  They were gross!    It's the only time in my life I have ever seen slugs six inches long!

Are they edible like snails? Or just fun to watch crawl around?

It's the first time seeing one of these cool sliding snails.

Found my first piece of jade on this second trip.   I tried to lift Pacalitics bag once and it was a difficult task.  That girl is strong, and that is one of her lesser great qualities.

Banana slugs are the unofficial mascot of the northwest. They do very little harm in the garden compared to the foreign invasive black Japanese slug which decimates gardens and eats banana slugs. Last year my daughter has a rat trap tripped by a 9 inch invasive slug. You can tell it is really winter here when you come home and there is a banana slug sleeping on your door at about face level. They adhere to just about anything.

This has been an experience of a lifetime.  I'm getting firsthand knowledge of local birds from Packalithic, plant life and the geology of the landscape from Karen and Frank.  Not to mention dinner the previous two nights.  What was the name of those meat/mushroom incased in a homemade bread dough balls again?  I saw Packalithic eat some of those as leftovers.  If I would have known she would never have gotten to them.
