Woodward Ranch Red and Black Plume Doublet
« on: May 04, 2016, 07:51:10 PM »

I have a lot of Woodward Ranch red and black plume slabs but due to the nature of the material a lot of the time you have to cut it very thin to see the plumes especially the black plumes. Because they are so thin they are generally not suitable for cabs unless you make a doublet or triplet out of it. This cab is 1-5/8: tall and it is a doublet.

This is the slab that I made it from. The back side was relatively free from pits and divots so I glued it to the synthetic quartz. As you can see this side was rather rugged. I ground it down to get rid of the defects and made it the surface for the back of the cab.

This photo is of the original slab backlit. With this bright light you could see the plumes but not very clearly.

Very nice.

I have a few pounds of biscuits that I need to slab. Hopefully out of the bunch I'll find 2 or 3 slabs worthy of cabbing.

Years ago I cut several Woodward Ranch cabs. They sold like hot cakes. I only have one cab left from that batch. I saved it because it had a small chip out of one side.

Oh Bob!  That cab is gorgeous!   :icon_sunny:   That one needs an open back mount so the light can shine through it.  I'm a bit in awe with that one.  It's actually left me a touch speechless...

Wow those are some nice plumes! I've never done a doublet or triplet yet, one of these days I'll have to make a go of it :-)
