There's a Hole in My Rock!
« on: November 14, 2016, 02:14:18 PM »

Had hoped to play with the cabbing machine this weekend but the constant drizzle made that impossible. Played outside instead.
Dragged a friend out for adventures and we found this place, which by its utter lack of beer cans, cigarette butts and graffiti, we are assuming is very infrequently visited. I had heard reports years and years ago of a hole in a rock 'big enough to ride a horse through' in the area but never knew where. I think we found the spot!

Palisades near it

There's a stunning lichen-covered opalized tree trunk in the mix too but my photos were too dark. Will definitely be going back to this place.

Natural arches fascinate me, but that one looks more sized for a giraffe instead of a horse

Did you look downslope from the hole? It looks like the rock was different from the surrounding rock , probably more acidic  in an area of acidic rocks.

This was down slope

A very moss-covered section of tree trunk.
Will be going back over thanksgiving week and will take a closer look at the rock directly below the hole then.
