Favorite Morrisonite
« on: December 04, 2016, 08:34:20 AM »

After doing a remodel(tile work) at my cabin I managed to cut this puppy from my old overstocks. I have about 5 pounds of these and there was no sign what so ever of what was hiding inside. It is unpolished and I am not sure if I want to slice it up for cabs?

Ooooh - hard call.  I love Morrisonite and I have such a hard time cutting any of it because it's so beautiful.   :icon_scratch:

Cut a slab or two for cabbing and leave the last part of it for display - best of both worlds.   :icon_thumleft:

The delema is I don't know how far the orb pattern goes into the rock. It is about 3 inch thick and I think I got lucky with the first cut.

We like to slice the face off of pieces like that to keep as display specimens, then cab whatever is behind them. If it just keeps getting better (rare) it's a bonus and you keep whichever ones you like best. If the pattern changes into something else you still have the face you liked.

The small slabs look good on little stands, so if you're okay with a slab instead of a chunk for a display specimen  open that sucker up and let us know what you find!
