Quartzsite/PowWow this weekend?
« on: January 16, 2017, 07:33:52 PM »

Haven't seen a lot of talk about this years show here at the boards.  Just curious who has been down this year (besides the obvious vendors..tony, christopher, et al).  Whats new and exciting this year?  Does anyone have anything cool I shouldn't miss out on?  And who will be there this weekend for the BBQ at Tonys? I will be there Sat and Sun (and of course at Tonys Sat night).  Its always a whirlwind weekend for me and I'm always concerned I might miss something really good.  But I still have rock I bought last year that I never cut yet so I don't know what I'm worried about!

See you guys Saturday!

Can I just say its all cool.  I was at the Desert Gardens show last weekend for a few hours.  In Tony's words the show just keeps getting bigger every year.  I bought some neat stuff from Tony (support our supporters), but went with my eye to getting a few more Argentine agates like two I had purchased a couple of years ago.  Tony pointed me toward the back rows to look for Anna and sure enough Rio Negro and Condor agate all over the place.  The Rio Negro are wonderously variable and I'm going to try some creative windowing on them.  I bought some other stuff, but as I said originally, "Its all cool and worth the trip".

I'm on the hunt for interesting agates this year.  Colorful mossys, plumes and fortifications are all in my crosshairs this year.  My wife was looking at pictures of some laguna lace and told me I need to buy her some.  I warned her that (if I can find some) it was expensive...her words "I don't care!"  Thats a dangerous thing to say to me when I'm going to a rock show.  Last year she said she didn't care and I bought an 18" saw!

Holy Cow!  The wife decided to come to Quartzsite with me this weekend.  I'm usually pretty reserved when it comes to spending money on rocks.  She, on the other hand, seems to have no self control!  LOL!  At every turn she kept talking me into buying another chunk of something I would've walked away from.  In the end I more than succeeded in my goal of scoring lots of great agates!

Here is a list of the agates I bought:
Condor
Black River
Blue Lace
Crazy Lace
Green Moss
Montanas
Graveyard Point
Kentuckys
Horse Canyon
Laguna Lace
Linda Marie Plume

Also scored some nice jaspers, including the new Dead Camel I've been wanting to check out.

Wife wanted some pink stones and we ended up with some thulite, some brecciated pink opal and some rose quartz.

I bought some blue tiger eye then found someone selling something they called blue hawks eye.  It looks like exactly the same stone but I bought a piece of that as well to cut and compare.

And a bunch of other random stuff; rhyolites, opals, flints and more.  Even some man made; a purple goldstone the wife liked and some fordite.

I have enough variety here to keep me busy for a long time.  I'm sure I will be cutting into these stones for years to come!
