Kerr County Texas
« on: April 15, 2017, 09:19:35 AM »

I'll be going to a retreat next weekend in the Texas Hill country.  We stay right on the Guadalupe river.  I think I'll use some of my time to walk along the river and pick up some rocks.  Any idea if anything neat has been found in this area?  Any specific areas to try to look (ie, shallow bends, etc)?

Heavier more interesting rocks fall out of the current  at the inside upstream edge of pools in rivers. Smaller and less dense rocks drop out in slower areas so the hounding is usually best  at the upstream  inside edges of curves and pools.

There is a better than not probability that what you find will be flint.  Flints are abundant throughout the area and some of them are real pretty to cut (with things that look like fossils included).  I randomly picked up rocks along the shoreline near Bandera and was pleasantly surprised by some of the material that cut from it.  Look for contrasting patterns on an otherwise grey rock.  Good hunting.
