What is this?
« on: August 08, 2017, 03:04:31 PM »

Hello,
This my first post so a bit of background. I have been a rockhound for 54 years, read the lapidary arts magazine for several years but never had the money or time to get started.
Well, almost at the exact time I retired I bought a bunch of "rocks and things" (my brother's words) which turned out to be 500 finished stones, two hundred slabs, 4 parcels of good opal rough, some polished sleeping beauty turquoise, 5 lbs of rough turquoise etc.
I also got a bunch of old lapidary equipment and supplies- some which I have no clue what it is such as the machine in the pix. It was a attached to a variable speed foot pedal....

I've never seen anything quite like it but I suspect it was used for carving.

Welcome to the forum!   :hello:

rockherder is exactly right.  It's a stationary carving station.  Sounds like you made an awesome score!
