Question on paste?????
« on: October 26, 2017, 10:31:17 PM »

I have been working on a couple of flat lap machines. I use an assortment of metal diamond discs for shaping, ending at 3,000. The I switch over to the diamond resin and end around 13,000. Then of coursei finish up with a polish using leather.

I ordered some discs and was also given some diamond paste with various colors and size microns. I've never used paste before and I am having trouble finding a decent how to resource. Any help?

I use either a Tech-10 polishing pad or smooth leather with diamond paste and extender fluid.  Obviously, a rubber disc between either and the lap for cushion.

Either works well for me.

Small dots of paste all over the pad a half inch apart to start and smear them in. You will probably need extender and more paste in short order but once the pad is properly charged which is evident by how it works you need to add paste less often.

Ok nice. Thanks for the info. I have always finished with a 13000 diamond resin disc then gone to cerium oxide for a pilish. ThanK you for the advice.

The 13K disc and then CeOx works well for a lot of stones.  I'll go 14K or 50K on my Genie and then hit most of my stones with CeOx because I like the oxide finish on most stones.

If that's what you've been doing and you're getting good results, no reason to change.  Save the paste for one of those ornery stones that won't polish the normal way.   :icon_sunny:

I get a nice polish already. I actually have a 50k but rarely use it. I finish with my 13k then two types of cerium oxide. A lower grade and then the super cerium.

I had gotten this paste from a vendor as a extra goodie since the shipment was a few days late. I've never used paste befor and I appreciate the replies on here on how to.
