Frankincense, Myrrh and Baobab
« on: November 11, 2014, 10:06:59 AM »

I'd love to have these trees, perhaps to use in bonsai applications or to dwarf for conversation pieces in my gardens.
I understand they would need special care since they won't tolerate freezing since they are tropical desert trees and we do see freezing temperatures here in the desert in the winter.

My problem so far is finding a source for them.  I've found seeds.  I've found places that sell small saplings but they are all sold out.  Every search is coming up empty handed.

My goal is to make some kind of garden that has most of the plants from the Bible.  :icon_sunny:    Not sure I will ever realize this goal, but I figure it's worth shooting for.  I certainly have a better climate here for trying this than I did back east.

If you know of a place here in AZ or even in the USA in general that sells small young trees of these, please let me know.

Thanks!   :headbang: :headbang: :hello2:

That sounds like a fun thing to try. The most exotic tree I ever tried to grow was a Silk Floss tree, it had very pretty blossoms but the thing I liked the most was the trunk, covered with short spikes kinda like rose thorns, there was a huge one at Baker Nursery in central Phoenix, I think they are closed now, it was a towering tree. I bought my seed from Thomas Nelson Co. Ltd. but they have sure cut back on the size and scope of their offerings in recent years. I think there is an exotic tree and plant club here in the Phoenix Metro Area, you could try them.

Thanks Jerry.
Someone on facebook found some exotic place in Tempe that has been around for a good 30 years.  They sell mainly seedlings, seeds and specimens for bonsai, but they have frankincense and myrrh!  Not Baobab, though, but hey I'll take two out of three for a good start!
