Eilat Stone, or...
« on: December 11, 2014, 06:15:04 PM »

...just plain ol' copper complex minerals. Either way this was a nice estate sale surprise.

Has azurite, chrysocolla, malachite, tenorite, turquoise, and who knows what else. Haven't found bright red cuprite yet, but have a couple more small chunks to cut someday. Club member here says this looks like some rough a friend of his found on the Bisbee tailings trip.

Anyone here have any similar rough? The teardrop is 36 x 16 mm.

I know this is old... did you get a conclusive identification?
Table Mountain Shadowkite looks similar, imo.

So hard with Copper mix minerals but I know you are very knowledgeable about stone.  I bought a chunk that I admired about 15 years ago from a man who was selling his old faceting machine and had the chunk on his mantle.  He said that he had gotten it in israel a long time ago.  Problem is eilat stone it's really only from one location and people say it was depleted long ago.  I look on the web and anything with blue and green is marketed or sold as eilat stone, some has features that are normally seen in known deposits in the US but whos to say right?  These are 3 cut stones from the "eilat" material I got from the gentleman all those years ago.  I am uploading just the previews from my website hope they are high enough res.  Even if is or isn't eilat stone it certainly is great quality and good material that you have there Vince.

Only stuff I can guarantee where it's from is material I personally collected and the very rare material that is so distinct that it is obvious.

Heh, thanks!

I also read about material being imported there because the original deposit was depleted - even possibly some from Arizona - and then resold as "Eilat Stone".

The fun never ends, huh... .

Nice ones you posted. Glad you finally got to work them up!
