Deer sky display slab
« on: July 24, 2019, 04:21:27 PM »

Worked up a piece of 55fossil's Deer Sky jasper at the request of one of my etsy customers. I had done another very similar that sold while he was deciding whether or not to buy it so I cut another for him.
4 x 3 1/4 x 3/16 inches.
Polished both sides.
Robin, Please move this if it is not in the right place.

Nice work, indeed. The meets at the corner are a nice touch.

Looks like the mothership is coming in for a landing... .

Lovely piece. I especially like the way you have also shown the edge with the camber.
Thank you.

Wow, that's a beautiful piece.  The beveled edges really finish it off nicely!

Stonemon - looking really good.  What tools/process did you use to do this?

Slabbed out on my 24" Frantom, the 3 straight edges were trimmed as close to straight as I could get them then trued on a wet 8" diamond lap disc. Bevels cut freehand then straightened on the lap. The top curve was free-handed along with the bevels. All edges and bevels sanded and finished to 50,000 on my Cab King 8V1. Faces were sanded with high speed dry disks ala Richardson Ranch type sander up to 1000 grit, then polished on a dry canvas buff with 50,000 diamond paste.
