Visit to a Nevada coal mine. (pic heavy)

As with many mines in Nevada this mine closed down when the railroad pulled out making transportation of ore too costly.

No. Coaldale Junction in Central Nevada.

Western Washington is full of small coal beds like these.In most cases they were not of commercial size with a couple of extreme exceptions. In eastern Montana one can see vast clinker beds above coal seams where lightning strikes set the coal on fire which cooked the rock above it red. Same things in spots in Pennsylvania where at least one fire has been burning over 100 years.I wonder why so much ash?
