Opal hunters :Discovery channel
« on: November 16, 2019, 10:57:36 AM »

There is a new show on discovery, outback-opal-hunters.
I watched the premiere show last night where they are running around posting claims with 4x4 posts then drilling the crap out of the land in search of opal in the ground.
quite interesting.

Half of it is probably staged.
The Australian government has some pretty strict rules regarding opal mining and what you are actually allowed to do.

I am really liking this show. shows how far a person will go into a seriously bad situation for a little piece of opal.

The trouble people have to go to in finding this stone. going deep into old mines...um crazy dangerous.

Yeah - no kiddin'.

I wish all the people who bitch about cab prices for real opal could watch this show!

The old-timer in Lighting Ridge and his daughter burning through time and money to find so little really says a lot.

Here's a link to an article from abc news australia about the show.

I'd still like to go there and see it firsthand.

I love the show, but sometimes while watching I found myself marvelling at their obvious fiscal folly! But I guess you could describe my entire stone cutting set up and collection as fiscal folly, just on a smaller scale, so...
