Lepidolite with quartz and aquamarine
« on: April 06, 2020, 04:47:09 PM »

Lepidolite rough from Pala district, appears to contain massive clear and smokey quartz, and a blue mineral that won't scratch with a knife.  Thinking aquamarine?  Was interesting to work with as I haven't seen material this varied before.  4.4" finished.

I know the other mine on Hilliart Mtn (Ocean View) has Aquamarine so I think it is a safe bet.  I think the 2 mines are just on opposite ends of the pegmatite.  Actually I read your text wrong you just said pala district and I read it as Pala mine.  If the piece did come from the Ocean View even more likely.

I'll need to check in with Wes Lingerfelt whose yard I picked this from, as to which mine pile he found this in.  I hadn't seen the blue in the rough so that was a fun surprise when I was cutting the pre-form.

Nice looking for sure. The blue is cool.
