3 new quarantine spheres
« on: April 19, 2020, 11:57:19 AM »

Last several days I dove into some older rough and found some material to play with.  First is a rose quartz collected from the Greenhorn Mountains in CA at 6"; next is Gabbs Wood from Nevada at 4" and last is a Black calcitic onyx from I don't no where at 4.2".

I haven't been to the Greenhorns in a long time.  Last time I was there it was hunting season and there were hunters walking and driving every road in the vicinity of the Quartz Outcrops.  Didn't stay too long over fear of being shot but found some great zones in the outcrop that had facet grade pieces in the mix.   Beautiful spheres.

I was hoping for asterism's in the rose quartz but I got white streaks instead!  Yes, on a smaller scale the color and clarity of some of that quartz mountainside is something to behold.
