Dryhead eye candy and more
« on: May 02, 2020, 07:29:57 PM »

People who enjoy Dryhead know that the fractures are a pain that is way too common in Dryhead.  I pulled out one of my slabs that although fracture free had a soft host on one edge and I didn't know how deep it would run.  I marked a rough design on the side I could see the flaws on and once cut I could refine the shape on the wheels with the opposing side being what I was keeping.  The curved area with the host actually was a ball shape so I had to alter the design on the wheels to accommodate.  I also cut a 2nd dryhead, a montana.  A piece of Coyamito also was screaming at me to be a heart and lastly I took some of the Picture sandstone I am sure most are familiar with and hxtal'd it to get a good polish.  I had done this once before with a belt buckle I made and it turns out great.

Dang, Steve, you're killing me!

That first Dryhead and the Coyamito heart are my favorites.  They are all beautiful, though.   :occasion14:

Missed one from yesterday.  This was some Bubbly Chalcedony I found in the cady's.  There is a lot there and I took some plates of this material.  The base is opaque and flat and had this nice translucent grey chalcedony on top which made cutting it a breeze.  This was a test and took this piece back and used a small wheel on the foredom to put more of a shine on the bubbles.  Turned out nice and definitely unique
