Somebody got a deal on some lapidary equipment
« on: July 05, 2020, 06:12:57 PM »

My Brother is down on his luck and to try and stay above water he had an auction to sell all his Hobby things and a good amount of things he has gathered thru life.  I tried to explain to him to reach out to rock clubs or the local paper to sell the lapidary things and I gave him approximate values.  He contacted one club and then decided he would be best off putting them in the auction.  A 20" Hilquist Slab saw went for $1.00 and his Frantom 6" combo unit went for $35.00.  Now he is upset.  I tried asking him if there were reserves to protect him but he brushed me off saying he has known the auction guy for a while now and he'll be fine.

Oh boy, that sucks.  I'm sorry to hear that, Steve.  He probably would have done much better listing them on Craigslist or something like that.

That does suck. He couldn't have done any worse.

Yeah, Although he made no mention of the brand new 6" Kinglsey North genie style grinder I bought him 2 christmas's ago makes me wonder if it also was given away at auction.  I told him I would pay for a pod to be delivered and then trucked to store at my place out here in California when he started talking about having to just throw away all his artwork he has created from over the years.  He didn't take me up on that either.  Not much I can do other than offer help.

Oh no! So sorry to hear this. Maybe he is depressed, so not able to plan well and needs some help on that front. I hope he lands on his feet soon.
