Hello from Florida!
« on: August 10, 2020, 11:43:40 AM »

Hi there.  New to lapidary.  Recently purchased a Hi-Tech Diamond 6" All-U-Need | Lapidary Rock Mineral Grinding Polishing Machine and have 'completed' a few rough emeralds into some (for me) exciting results.  I have no idea where I want to go with this hobby, and I see there's A LOT to learn and do.

Welcome from Northern Arizona!

The Hi-Tech was my first machine when I decided I wanted to cut opal.

Welcome. You can do a lot with that machine. Do you have a trim saw? Also what do you mean by 'completed' ? Is it doubtful, and can you send pictures? We'd like to see, they sound like good stones.

Thanks all.  Glad to hear positive things about the Hi-Tech machine :)

I say 'completed' in quotes because I'm sure they're not all completed as you would call them.  For me, they're completed because I'm going from coarse to polish to learn the steps, see results and get some experience.

I have a wet tile saw with a diamond blade on it.  I cut a couple fatter rocks in half yesterday so I can put them on the flat lap.  Below is a pic of a small piece that broke off and I worked it... it's about 3/4 inch long...

Welcome.

Yeah, the Hi-Tech flat laps are nice. I got one after seeing how well Robin's worked.

The 8" splash shield is a good upgrade. Not too expensive, and the extra space for fingers or dop sticks around the 6" laps is good.

Just got their Pro-Flow water setup (with pressure tank) for ours, too. Wondered why we didn't do it sooner.
