Guatemalan jadeite carving

Thanks Amanda. And yes it does glow. I should carve more jadeite but the prices are insane for quality rough.

How does the carving experience differ between this and nephrite? I have a few small slabs of Myanmar jadeite, but haven't tried working on them yet. I do have a bit of experience with nephrite. What should I be prepared for?

I have carved quite a few nephrite pieces. It is a bit different. It’s harder. Sanding takes longer. I hand sand my carvings when carving nephrite with silicon carbide sticks I cut my self up to 600 grit then I change to diamond papers. The black carbide was very slow. I tried green silicon carbide with good results. It’s higher grade. Still slower than nephrite but worked. Will talk about the final polishing when I get there.
