Ya'll have seen this cab before. I left the stone in the shape and thickness that it was when I acquired it so the variation in thickness made it tough to figure out a way to hang it. I did not want to drill it so after much thought  :idea1: I decided to do a half groove wrap which my guess would be unique to the planet (maybe, I have not covered the whole planet YET) I am sure that most of you have figured out that, right or wrong, I ALWAYS try to do things a little different.  It is unfinished and I am trying to decide which way to finish it.

I buy every cord and wire that is different than what I have so I ended up with this 16 gauge soft brass wire. It is too small for the groove so I plan to wrap it with silver wire.





Here are some different options for wrapping the wrap.
Top center: 30 ga wire
Left around: 28 ga wire. perfect fit in groove.
26 ga wire. Too big for groove
Crimped wire. Too big for groove but I like the look.
Half round wire first wrapped inside out then outside out. Outside out is good fit and look.


I will probably go with the 28 ga argent wire because when I go around the curves it does not leave a wide gap so the brass can be seen. I have experimented and I can wrap on the long straight part then push the wrap over the loops. When I get it all wrapped I will use epoxy in the holes to hold everything in place. It is difficult to get the wire off now so I have no worries about it coming off when worn. My biggest concern is a reaction between the two different metals over time.

good Idea Jim  :headbang: after a lot of thought about your assertion that you didn't want to drill it I finally went DUH and figured out that the holes are there so you can hook the ends of the wire in there  LOL

Sorry about the confusion. I did not want to drill a large hole for a ring or cord and i should have said that. Sometimes (well maybe most of the time) I have trouble putting things into proper words for what is going on.

My Hubby is the same way.  I'm slowly gaining fluency in Ancient Peter.    I'm learning to figure out what he actually means by certain things.  It's another form of reading between the lines, just that I'm often going off vaguely worded sentences.

I wrapped what seemed like a mile of wire on the brass wire, got it all nice and neat and I DO NOT LIKE IT. The brass looks good with that stone and I think I need to go back to it. I have some smaller brass wire so I am going to try a three wire twist and do the same style of wrap as before. Time wise this pendant is working up to being priceless but I really like this stone and I want it right. If I have to I can put the silver back on but I doubt that I will need to.

I'm in complete agreement, Jim.  The brass worked well, and the lack of texture kept the focus on the stone.  The silver color and the texture that the wrapping gives to the wire just don't work for me.  Can you just get bigger brass, uh, wire?

On the other hand I like the way this wire is wrapped. 
I think it's beautiful and would look great with a silver chain.

I do not have taste, I do not know what taste in jewelry is, I do not know how to add flavor. I just make s..t and hope someone likes it. If I had to make a living with my jewelry I would have to hire the absolute best sales person on the planet and pay them all the money that comes in plus get a job to pay them what I owe over what the sales bring in. I am talking loosing battle here.

I have probably spent ten hours on this cab and wrap so maybe I should just sell the cab for ten bucks (if I can get that much) so I can pay for all the t-paper it took to think the damn thing up.  :pottytrain5: :idea1: :pottytrain4: :idea1: :jerk: if I am seeing that right.

Or I can twist up three strands of brass wire that I did not realize I had, put it on the cab and say "why in the hell didn't I do this in the first place?".

As an inventor I am pretty good at coming up with a new concept but from that point on ........................... cause I don't have any class I guess. :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow:

Maybe I should go and do something else before I get elinimated.
