Finished something new to me.
« on: December 29, 2015, 11:51:58 PM »

I am sure this has been done before but I have never seen one so I am claiming it as my (maybe) invention.

I was sitting at my daughters having just arrived from Hobby Lobby and the only one there was my grand daughter. She was messing with her hair color so I had some time to figure out that I had forgotten my boxes of cabs which I placed right where I could not miss them. ha Ended up all I had was a covered ice tray with a bunch of druzzy pieces and small cabs. BAM right out of the blue it hit me that I should try wrapping a cab with brass flat bar wrapped in silver wire. Picked a nice smoky quartz druzzy cab and went to work. I was totally amazed by how much wire you have to use to wrap a little piece of brass. There has to be over 8 feet of 22 gauge wire on this pendant. The cab is only 1 5/8" tall and the whole pendant is 2 1/2".

This thing glitters like crazy but well, you know.

I have thought about soldering the two ends at the top of the heart but the brass is really stiff and it would take a really serious yank to straighten it out. In fact I would bet that the double silver ring would straighten out first.

Very nice . When did you start wrapping? I can't remember any wrap posts from the frozen wastes of western Wyoming before this one . Stay warm.

Gorgeous Jim!  I'm glad that brass is so hard because truly that bail scares me otherwise as it looks flimsy!
However the rest of the wrap is very nicely done.  Simple and elegant!

I do not remember when I started wrapping but it was a long time ago. + - 4 to 5 years. I also can not remember when I quit wrapping but it was a long time ago. + - 3.5 to 4.5 years ago. hahaha

I have actually done quite a bit of wrapping but most of it was only posted to RTH. Here is a photo from a tut I did on how I cut grooves for a groove wrap.

A groove wrap that only went half way around the stone. Sold it immediately.

A groove wrap with para cord. I later removed the silver on the bail and replaced it with genuine imitation silk thread.

My curly haired girl wrap. Florida agatized coral.

My "trying to do something different than everything else out there" wrap.

One of my first wraps which in hand you can see how I did not know how to finish a bail so there is just a bunch of wires that end on the back of the stone. It is a keepsake because the stone has some meaning for me besides the druzzy smile. I was cutting some stones for a lady friend in Florida and got two real similar smiles so I wrapped one for me then glued a mirror from a compact case on the back of hers then wrapped it for her.

I want to put up a photo of a wrap on a fire agate that turned out mavelus but I can not find the photo. Your loss. hahaha
