"Ice and Orange" Fraser river sillimanite
« on: March 26, 2015, 07:34:31 AM »

I've only found the one piece of this material so far so I'm just cleaning up the surface; leaving the contours as found, and polishing it as a display cab. and the second one is a pure orange cab of the same material; both at 600 grit on the hard wheels so far.

it really holds it's colour well even backlit; the light is coming from above, where my thumb is

Reminds me of the Orange dreamsickles we had when I was a kid, roughly the same color!  Love it!   :icon_sunny:

This is from the first place I found last fall Ernie. I just didn't know what it was till I researched the material and the colours it came in after Frank told me what it was. It's great stuff to work with in it's massive form like this. The stuff with the kyanite is a little more PITA.
I hope I can find some more of the clearer material, the plumes of colour in it are pretty nice. And if you get hungry you can always suck on a piece LOL

No, it's still about 3/4s of an inch......  LOL yes I know what you mean :) I can read the paper through the clearer end and the orange plumes go right through.
