thought you could hide huh????
« on: August 26, 2022, 08:44:35 PM »

LOL. I guess seeing as I hadn't been on the other site for a couple of years when you made the move...again.... is why I didn't know about this place.
Spied a link on Amanda's profile so gave that a try today and voila!

I must be one of those people who gets the 7 year itch but related to hobbies. The rocks are calling again!

I hope all my old friends are well and the new ones to be are also.  :glasses9:

Welcome --- back!

Lots of folks who used to be here unfortunately followed the deadbeat who started this forum to a new one he started - then also killed.

The current owners were able to work a deal to preserve all the old content here: http://lapidaryforum.net/gemstone/ . You can also find the link at the bottom of the home page.

Let us know what you've been up to.

Thank you Bill and Vince!

Lots been going on my end...
Dead computers(loss of links and pwords etc).. notice the plural in use there, selling of equipment to fund life, plenty of heartbreak, plenty of happiness, repurchase of one piece of equipment, would love the other half(cabber) so I can get back into my Zen spot but that day will come when the time is right.
So I've been filling in my years testing knitwear and crochet patterns for designers around the globe.. taking in order for items around the globe with yarn as a form of compensation..now I also have a yarn stash to add to the rock stash.
Yarn stash, 12 large containers worth, rock stash less than one containers worth....something is wrong with that image.  :LOLOL:
I'm at the stage now where the yarn isn't enough to keep my attention and the rocks are winning again.

My new machine looks like it was a returned lemon but by the time it came to our side of the pond, far to much to return it in entirety. I did have to send the entire facet head back after a ball bearing donged me after 3 hours use. Took them awhile to work out where it came from. Micrometer was swinging wildly with every sweep. fortunately I asked a GO member how to fix that before I dove in. Now it's been sitting(5 yrs?) waiting for me to work up the guts to try to find the true zero point because the gauge just seems wildly out when you look at everything square on. I did find a youtube vid to help with that so I'm going to make a point of trying that this week. Sink or swim as they say.

Glad to hear you're still swimming after all that.

Robin has a faceting machine that also needs to be recalibrated - whenever more important things allow the time... .

That's it isn't it. I think we all need to reevaluate what is deemed more important.

i was only on that old site a short while before George pissed me off.
Couple short conversations with Amanda and this site happened without thinking.
But, we will leave it at that without the drama.

Wasn't the old site a new site as well? I remember if you hadn't posted within a certain time frame (at the original site?), you basically had to start all over again which peeved me off. Then I thought there was a new one and now a new one again.
Absolutely leave the dramas at the door.
I stepped away from another forum I absolutely loved because the mood soured and I'd had to sell off my equipment because of life stuff...and I just didn't need the extra downer on how I was already feeling and didn't want my rock love turned off forever.

I've ventured back now because I feel ready 'emotionally' to get involved again.... equipment is half non existent but that will be fulfilled soon...everything crossed. I've also ventured back into my other gem forums. All across different gem sites things seem to be a lot quieter. The sites that have exploded are for handcrafts like knit/crochet/spinning and the sewing sites have grown as well and there's an incredible number of male participants who do darn fine work and put the female gender to shame with their abilities. I also think it's more an affordability and available space move. A hook and needles are a lot cheaper than a cabber and a crochet hook or knitting needles aren't going to upset the guy in the next apartment.
